Playa del Coco
So after waking up around 9am I cracked open the laptops and got to work. I spent the first 2.5 hours of the day doing some basic maintenance and contacting clients. I made my first business Skype call and had no problems which was definitely reassuring. When 11:30 rolled around I decided it was time for some training.
I got down to Ocotal with goggles in hand and walked all the way to the left of the beach. I jumped in the water to see how many fish I could see with my goggles…none. Turns out where I was the visibility was about 3ft. It wasn’t until later in the day when I found out where the good snorkeling spots are. So I made my attempt to swim from one end of the beach to the other. I made it maybe 100 yards before I had a rest. Then I started thinking about the movie, The Beach, and the shark attack. I swam for maybe another 10 minutes in about 3 feet of water before I decided I didn’t want to see any sharks. Now I have been told by EVERYONE down that there are no sharks here. I was just being paranoid. Stupid brain.
So after an hour of exploring the beach some more I went back to “the office”. A couple more hours of work after lunch and then I thought I would read by the pool for a little while. Turns out everyone in the this little area is from Canada. I think 10 of the 12 people I’ve met here are. Everyone is very friendly and always has a beer in their hand.

The walk back from Coco
In the afternoon I thought I would walk down into Coco and have a look around. It took about 30 minutes to walk there but it was worth it. The beach has an incredible view. I was able to squeak by with my terrible spanish and buy some fresh fruit and a 2 liter of Coke also. The walk home took me past Coconuts (where I’ll watch the Superbowl) and a handful of other little shops and restaurants. I also saw what looked to be a make-shift amusement park and a small school with a concrete soccer field.
After a nice spaghetti meal with chips and salsa I was able to relax to a few episodes of the Los Simpson (The Simpsons) in spanish. I understand about 1 out of every 25 words but maybe it will help me learn. Tomorrow I am off to 2 secluded beaches. One is actually only reachable by swimming so that should be fun. Pictures of day 2 are up in the photos section at the top.
